A medium amber quart with extra-strong and sharp embossed lettering. This is the Hero jar variant without the Cross. Embossed on the base with the Hero date circle and mold number 183. A beautiful sparkling clean jar with a good whittled effect. Has a shallow open bubble inside and there is a thin flake running along the inner edge of the ground rim that is not quite detached. Also minor rim edge chipping. A great looking jar with very good embossing.

The mouth shows strands of olive green glass embedded in the neck and threads area. The ground rim has roughness and flaking as shown. Comes with a glass lined zinc cap with a circle of dates and zinc band closure. The metal has some oxidation and pinholes, but solid throughout. A beautiful example that is in flawless condition throughout, which is rare to find in this series. The lid and mouth are both perfect with not so much as a nick. The lid is more of a blue-aqua color. The original cast iron yoke clamp is in fine shape also. The jar even retains the original sealing gasket still intact. On the base is a crude "6".

A quart "VAN VLIET IMPROVED" jar in an extremely rare (or singular) yellow green color. The glass displays some beautiful character with tons of seed bubbles and some swirling. There are also some very subtle amber swirls visible through the jar. The base of the jar has "feet" comprised of the 8 embossed letters "VAN VLIET". No damage or stains at all, other than a single thin flake on the ground rim (not quite detached). Original iron clamp assembly and original wire. The Van Vliet glass lid is more yellowish than the jar but looks very good on the jar. The base has an embossed mold number "13". I believe this is one of only two known colored Van Vliet jars.
Ex: George McConnell, and still retains his inventory label which indicates he purchased the jar in 1977 for 200.00.
