A deep aqua half gallon, embossed on the front in two lines of block lettering: "THE RESERVOIR". Applied ring collar mouth, and the neck is blown with two indentions to accept the original hollow blown glass stopper with juice hole. Both the jar and the glass stopper are in fine shape, with no damage or stains. Base: "C&I"....for Cunningham & Ihmsen of Pittsburgh. A great looking example of this appealing early jar.

Thie early canning tin represents the very first patented closure for a canning jar. A quart tin with the original glass lid embossed: "SPRATTS PATENT JULY 18 1854". The can is in exceptionally fine shape without rust, and the glass lid is not damaged. It was not known at the time, but tins of this type were a health hazard, due to the lead-based solder used for sealing the seams of the vessel.
