A clear midget pint "CRYSTAL JAR". Often these jars show weak embossing, but this example is most definitely the exception, with sharply raised lettering and also displaying a nice light whittled effect. Correct original glass cap. A white milk glass pint "FLACCUS BROS STEERS HEAD FRUIT JAR". Comes with the correct original one-piece glass screw cap in the matching white milk glass color. The inside threads on the glass cap have some roughness as usual, but the lid threads on and off smoothly. Thick ground rim on the jar with minor edge roughness. No damage or stains.

A black glass quart Mason (olive-black) that is totally opaque except under the brightest light source held very close. Embossed on the front "MASONS PATENT NOV 30TH 1858" and on the reverse with a large "HGCo" monogram for the Hemingray Glass Company. A rare survivor from the run of black glass jars that were made by Hemingray at their Covington, KY site in 1877. Beautiful condition with no damage or stains. No dings, no bruises, no starred potstones, no flashes, no chips, only the usual edge flaking of the ground rim. Base has a large embossed "8". The finest example of this highly-appealing early jar, which is rarely seen for sale.

A rare 1860's era wax sealer PINT that was made by the Hemingray Glass Co. The grooved ring was achieved by the glassmaker pushing down on the unfinished mouth of the jar while the glass was still hot. Shiny glass with no damage or stains. The rough-sheared mouth was not ground, and has some flaking off the edges as shown. Extremely scarce in this appealing pint size.
