Description

Size: QUART measuring roughly 8-1/2 inches tall

Color: RICH AQUA

Closure: heavy applied ring collar mouth for a cork stopper

Appearance: Shiny glass with a light whittled effect. An unearthed jar that was only lightly pro-cleaned to restore it's luster, with some remains of ground wear still present.

Condition: no damage, has a manufacturer's pot stone with tiny legs as shown, on the lower right side

Embossing: medium to strong

Base: a very large bare iron pontil scar

Age: 1850-1860

Availability: Extremely rare. This jar was unearthed in Cincinnati just this spring, becoming only the second example known to exist. An important artifact from the earliest era of Louisville glass manufacturing.
