An aqua quart stopper jar embossed: "BALTIMORE GLASS WORKS". Smooth base and an applied ring collar mouth. Comes with a most unusual original cast iron Willoughby stopple, which is impressed "2-3/4" which is not a documented size. The stopple is in good solid shape with some rust on the bottom, but overall good. The jar is in fine shape with no damage. There is a shallow cooling flash inside the top edge of the mouth, not even halfway thru the thickness of the glass, and from the manufacturing. Base: unmarked.

Even the gutta percha insert gasket is present, although the entire perimeter edges of the gasket under the ring are chipped away. The jar has an excellent ground mouth with very little flaking. A small free-blown dark olive amber utility jar, attributed to the South Stoddard, NH glass manufacturing district, c 1840-1860. A rare form for Stoddard glass, with a pushed-in open pontil scarred base, and a sheared, fire-polished, upright mouth, apparently made for a drop-on tin cap. Shiny glass with good crude character, and no damage or stains. Measures approximately 6-1/2 inches tall and 3-1/4 inches wide at the base. A highly-appealing early jar in a rare diminutive size.

A clear free-blown clear (colorless) quart+ sized jar which displays a fantastic swirled character from top to bottom as shown. Pushed-in open pontil scarred base and a tooled mouth that is ground flat on top to permit sealing with the knob-handled glass lid which is also ground flat on the bottom surface. The jar is in brilliant condition with only some flaking on the top of mouth. The glass stopper has some small edge flakes, and is embossed "F&J McKEE PITTSBURGH Pa". A great looking piece of early glass that displays beautifully in a window.

An extremely rare PINT sized aqua odd-closured jar that is embossed in an arch of block lettering: "PROTECTOR". This round version of the jar in pint size is by far the rarest in the series, and only the second example we've seen. Very strong embossing and shiny glass. The surface of the jar does show some scratching on close inspection but displays well. The ground mouth has some chipping as shown. Correct original tin cap in good solid condition. Base: "1". If you collect pints, take a close look at this one, as any chance to purchase this jar occurs rarely.

An odd-closured quart embossed in a circular arrangement: "THE MAGIC (star) FRUIT JAR". The color is a gorgeous yellow amber or honey amber which in some lighting conditions may display a trace of olive tone. Best of all, this light colored variation comes with an exact matching colored original lid, which is a rare perfect specimen (rarely found perfect due to normal prying and usage). The jar is in good shape throughout, with normal flaking of the ground mouth, and typical light surface scuffing around the neck from the making process. Also retains the correct original 3-piece iron clamp assembly in beautiful condition. The embossing is strong and the jar displays a nice whittled effect throughout. A fantastic example in an exceptionally beautiful color. Base: unmarked.

An early aqua odd-closured quart embossed: "HILTONS PAT MAR 10TH 1868". Beautifully crude glass character, crisp embossing, and no stains or significant damage. The mouth of the jar has edge flaking, and the glass lid has edge flaking. There is a small open bubble inside the back of the jar. Correct original glass lid with dual sloping ramps, and a correct replica wire clamp (note that the flat sheet iron "repro" clamps placed on these jars in the past are fantasy closures which do not emulate the original clamp, most likely a simple wire clip). A rarely seen early jar and a fine example. Base: "13".
