An early odd-closured clear quart that is embossed in strongly-raised, stylized block lettering: "FIRST PREMIUM". Unlike the later, mass-produced "Premium" jars, this early jar is hand-blown with a ground mouth. An extremely obscure jar of which only two known examples have ever surfaced. Shiny glass in fine condition without damage to the jar itself. There's a faint trace of light deposit on the interior. Original glass lid and original shaped iron wire clamp. The glass lid does has a flat chip off one edge as shown. Base: unmarked.

1005. Rare GALLON Size WW LYMAN w/ Circle of Dates

A Full Gallon sized advertising or promotional jar which is embossed in a circular arrangement with 1862 & 1864 patent dates encircling "W.W. LYMAN" as shown. Nice shiny glass with some whittly character. Has a faint trace of light surface deposits. Good condition with the exception of the mouth, which has 3 chips, two of which have cracks radiating out of them. The shorter of the two lip cracks is in the back to the left of the seal release notch, and is confined to the vertical section of the mouth (12 o'clock position in the mouth photo). The other one is longer and is located right along the right mold seam and extends into the bulge of the neck (4 o'clock position in mouth photo). The third chip is right above the seal release notch in back (2 o'clock position in the mouth photo) and has no cracks radiating from it. With the lid in place and the jar sitting on the shelf, these defects will never be noticed. The large size metal cap is a replica, as are the metal caps on all known examples of this jar in Gallon size. Base: unmarked. An extremely rare old jar.

A medium to deep amber shoulder seal quart embossed: "MASONS (Keystone in a circle) PATENT NOV 30TH 1858". A beautiful specimen with strong embossing and great character that includes fine surface swirls that spiral around the body of the jar. No damage with the exception of flaking on the ground mouth and the surface fissure shown inside the neck (looks like a crack in the photo, but is not, as it only goes into about 1/4 the thickness of the glass). Comes with a great original Keystone zinc cap as shown. Base: "83". One of the finest possible examples of this rare and appealing jar.

An aqua squatty pint sized jar with a slightly tapering shape. Embossed on the base: "CAP PATENTED AUG 15, 1876". Original sheet iron cap with 4 lugs to thread onto the lugged neck of the jar. The inside of the cap still retains traces of the original tin plating. Ground mouth with some flaking off the sides of the mouth. The jar is in good shape with the exception of a ding in the heel, that is very hard to spot. Only visible when the jar is held at just the right angle. A rare old pint, and only the second example we've ever seen for sale.

The best feature of this "PURITAN" w/ SAILING SHIP quart is the unusually good embossing. Normally these are weakly embossed, but this one is an exception with good clear embossing of both the lettering and the pictorial sailboat. Sparkling glass with correct original glass lid and a replica metal clamp. On the bottom side of the neck collar is a small hole that was caused by the wire clamp (see photo). The inside of the jar displays faint trace of deposit. Base: "1".
